Your Essential Role in Fort McMurray Construction

As a Quality Control (QC) Inspector in the Fort McMurray construction sector, you are the guardian of project excellence. You are responsible for executing comprehensive inspection activities across various disciplines (e.g., piping, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation), ensuring all work is performed according to approved drawings, specifications, codes, and industry best practices. Key Responsibilities often include:

• Inspection & Verification: Perform thorough visual, dimensional, and functional inspections of materials, components, and completed work as per Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and project requirements.
• Code & Standard Compliance: Verify compliance with applicable national and international codes (e.g., ASME, API, CSA, AWS), client specifications, and engineering drawings.
• Documentation: Prepare clear, concise, and accurate inspection reports, daily logs, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and deficiency lists, ensuring proper record-keeping.
• Witnessing & Monitoring: Witness testing activities (e.g., hydrotests, pressure tests, electrical tests, functional tests) and NDE/NDT procedures, verifying results and compliance.
• Procedure Review: Review and provide input on Quality Control Plans (QCPs), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Method Statements, and welding procedure specifications (WPS/PQR).
• Collaboration: Liaise effectively with construction teams, engineering, client representatives, and third-party inspectors to resolve quality-related issues and ensure alignment.
• Hold & Release Points: Implement and manage inspection hold points and release points to control work progression.
• Turnover Support: Assist in the preparation and review of final quality documentation packages for project turnover.
• Equipment Calibration: Verify the calibration status of inspection and test equipment.
• Safety Integration: Ensure quality activities are performed safely and in adherence to site-specific safety protocols.

Who We're Looking For: Your Essential Qualifications

To excel as a Quality Control (QC) Inspector in the rigorous and highly regulated Fort McMurray construction environment, you'll need specialized certifications and significant practical experience:

• Education: Technical diploma in Quality Assurance/Control, Welding Engineering Technology, Civil Technology, or a related field. Journeyperson trade certification relevant to industrial construction (e.g., Welder, Pipefitter, Electrician) is a strong asset.
• Key Certifications (Required/Highly Preferred - specific to discipline):
  • CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) CSA W178.2 Welding Inspector Level 1 or 2.
  • API (American Petroleum Institute) certifications (e.g., API 510 Pressure Vessel, API 570 Piping, API 653 Tank Inspector).
  • NDE/NDT (Non-Destructive Examination/Testing) certifications (e.g., CGSB or ASNT Level 1 or 2 in PT, MT, UT, RT).
  • Other relevant certifications for Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil (e.g., ACI, CSA W47.1).
  • ASQ certifications (e.g., CQA - Certified Quality Auditor, CQI - Certified Quality Inspector) are an asset.
• Experience: Minimum 5-10+ years of progressive Quality Control inspection experience in large-scale industrial construction, oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy civil projects. Direct experience in the Fort McMurray region or Alberta's oil sands is highly preferred. Multi-discipline inspection experience is a strong advantage.
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Expert ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, P&IDs, isometric drawings, piping schematics, electrical schematics, structural drawings, welding procedures (WPS/PQR), and relevant industry codes/standards.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and specialized inspection equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for report generation.
  • Experience with electronic document control systems.
• Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical and diagnostic abilities, excellent written and verbal communication, strong report-writing and documentation skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Quality Management Systems (QMS) such as ISO 9001, inspection methodologies, non-conformance management, and project turnover requirements.
• Valid Driver's License: A valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean abstract is typically required for site mobility.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work in various weather conditions, navigate construction sites, climb ladders/scaffolding, and lift/carry inspection equipment as needed.
• Pre-Employment Screening: Ability to pass pre-employment Drug & Alcohol testing (including cannabis) and comprehensive background checks is a standard requirement for all Fort McMurray industrial sites.
