• Inspection & Verification: Conduct comprehensive inspections of materials, welding, fabrication, construction, and installation activities at various stages (e.g., pre-fabrication, in-process, final) to ensure strict adherence to engineering drawings, specifications, codes (e.g., ASME, CSA, API), and project requirements.
• Code & Standard Application: Interpret and apply relevant industry codes, standards, and client specifications (e.g., CSA W178.2, ASME B31.1, B31.3, API 650/653, API 1104, NACE) to all inspection activities.
• Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed and accurate inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), deficiency lists, and turnover documentation, ensuring all findings are meticulously recorded and tracked.
• Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Coordination: Coordinate and interpret results from various NDE methods (e.g., RT, UT, MT, PT, VT) performed by certified NDE technicians. May perform visual (VT) inspections.
• Welding Inspection: Perform visual inspection of welds, including fit-up, in-process, and final weld inspections, verifying welder qualifications, proper procedures, and compliance with WPS/PQR.
• Material Traceability: Verify material certifications, heat numbers, and traceability throughout the fabrication and construction process.
• Quality Management System (QMS) Adherence: Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with the project's Quality Management System (QMS) and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
• Liaison & Communication: Collaborate effectively with project management, engineering, fabrication, construction, and client representatives to address quality issues, resolve discrepancies, and facilitate corrective actions.

Who We're Looking For: Your Essential Qualifications

To excel as an Oil Sands Quality Control (QC) Inspector, you'll need a combination of specialized certifications, extensive practical experience, and an unwavering commitment to quality:

• Mandatory Certifications:
  • CWB Welding Inspector Level 1 or, preferably, Level 2 (CSA W178.2) is often a fundamental requirement.
  • Relevant NDE certifications (e.g., CGSB MT Level 2, PT Level 2, UT Level 1/2) are highly advantageous.
  • API certifications (e.g., API 510 Pressure Vessel, API 570 Process Piping, API 653 Storage Tank Inspector) are often required for specific asset integrity roles.
• Industry Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressive QC Inspection experience in heavy industrial, oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, or large-scale construction projects. Direct Oil Sands experience is highly valued.
• Code Knowledge: In-depth understanding and practical application of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.1, B31.3, Section VIII, API 650/653, CSA Z662, CSA W59).
• Technical Acumen: Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and technical specifications.
