Key Responsibilities & Crafting Critical Connections

Your technical skill and meticulous attention to detail will be fundamental to the seamless and safe operation of advanced industrial processes. Typical duties for an Oil Sands Pipefitter / Steamfitter include:

• Fabrication & Assembly: Fabricate, assemble, and install various types of piping systems (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys, HDPE) using diverse methods such as cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, brazing, and welding (often collaborating with Welders).
• Blueprint Interpretation: Read and accurately interpret complex blueprints, Isometric drawings, P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), and technical specifications to determine pipe layouts, dimensions, materials, and installation sequences.
• System Installation: Install supports, valves, hangers, piping, and control systems, ensuring proper alignment, fit-up, and securement according to design specifications and industry codes (e.g., ASME B31.1, B31.3, CSA Z662).
• Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on existing piping systems, including inspecting, troubleshooting, disassembling, repairing, and replacing worn or damaged components (e.g., valves, flanges, gaskets).
• Pressure Testing: Conduct various testing procedures (e.g., hydro-testing, pneumatic testing) to check systems for leaks, ensuring integrity and compliance with safety standards before commissioning.
• Rigging & Hoisting: Utilize rigging and hoisting equipment to safely move, position, and install pipe sections and associated equipment, adhering to safe lifting plans.
• Material Management: Select appropriate pipe materials, sizes, and fittings based on project specifications and process requirements.
• Safety Adherence: Strictly follow all safety protocols, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, permit systems (e.g., confined space, hot work), and site-specific regulations, promoting a safe work environment for yourself and others.
• Quality Control: Perform visual quality checks on own work and collaborate with Quality Control (QC) Inspectors to ensure all installations meet exacting quality standards.
• Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with Welders, Millwrights, Instrumentation Technicians, and other trades to ensure integrated system functionality and swift project completion.

Who We're Looking For: Your Essential Qualifications

To excel as an Oil Sands Pipefitter / Steamfitter, you'll need certified expertise, extensive practical experience, and a meticulous approach:

• Journeyperson Certification: Valid Red Seal Journeyperson Pipefitter or Journeyperson Steamfitter-Pipefitter certification is mandatory.
• Industry Experience: Minimum 3-5+ years of relevant experience as a certified Pipefitter/Steamfitter in a heavy industrial, oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, or mining environment. Oil Sands experience is a significant asset.
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Expertise in pipe fabrication, bending, fitting, and installation techniques.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex piping schematics, P&IDs, and isometric drawings.
  • Knowledge of various piping materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys, plastics) and their appropriate joining methods.
  • Familiarity with various pipe joining methods (threading, grooving, flanging, welding prep).
• Code Knowledge: In-depth understanding and practical application of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.1, B31.3 for Process Piping, CSA Z662 for Oil & Gas Pipeline Systems, CSA B51 for Boiler, Pressure Vessel, and Pressure Piping Code).
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to diagnose piping issues and develop effective repair or installation solutions.
• Safety Mindset: A strong commitment to safety culture and strict adherence to all safety regulations and procedures (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, confined space, hot work, working at heights).
• Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks associated with the role, including working at heights, in confined spaces, lifting/carrying heavy pipes and tools, and standing/kneeling for extended periods, often in varying weather conditions.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with supervisors, other trades, and project management.
