Your Essential Role in Fort McMurray’s Landscape

As a Heavy Equipment Operator in Fort McMurray's bustling industrial sector, you are instrumental in shaping the landscape, preparing sites, and moving massive volumes of material essential for project success. • Equipment Operation: Safely and proficiently operate a range of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, excavators, bulldozers (dozers), wheel loaders, articulated and rigid-frame haul trucks (e.g., Cat 777, 785, 793, 797), motor graders, compactors, rock trucks, and water trucks.
• Earthmoving & Grading: Perform tasks such as excavation, trenching, backfilling, grading, pioneering, road construction/maintenance, and land clearing to precise specifications.
• Material Handling: Load and unload materials (e.g., aggregate, overburden, ore) onto trucks or into hoppers with precision and efficiency.
• Pre-Operational Checks: Conduct thorough daily pre-operational inspections, fluid level checks, and preventative maintenance on equipment, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
• Site Awareness: Maintain acute situational awareness of the worksite, including ground conditions, proximity to other equipment and personnel, and overhead/underground hazards.
• Grade Control: Utilize GPS systems, laser levels, or traditional survey stakes to maintain accurate grades and elevations.
• Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all provincial (Alberta OHS), federal, company, and client safety policies and procedures, including traffic management plans, lockout/tagout, and environmental regulations.
• Communication: Maintain clear and consistent communication with ground crews, supervisors, and other heavy equipment operators using two-way radios or hand signals.
• Record Keeping: Complete daily logbooks and shift reports accurately.

  • Familiarity with GPS-enabled machine control systems is an asset.
