Your Essential Role in Fort McMurray Construction

As a Cost Control / Project Controls Coordinator in the Fort McMurray construction sector, you are the financial compass of complex projects. Your expertise ensures that projects remain on budget and provides critical insights for decision-making. You will be instrumental in tracking costs, analyzing variances, and delivering accurate financial forecasts to project leadership.

Key Responsibilities often include:

• Cost Tracking & Analysis: Monitor project expenditures against budgets, identify cost variances, and conduct detailed analysis to understand root causes.
• Forecasting & Reporting: Develop accurate cost forecasts (EAC/ETC), prepare comprehensive cost reports, and present financial status to Project Management and stakeholders.
• Budget Management: Assist in developing, maintaining, and managing project budgets, ensuring proper coding and allocation of costs.
• Change Management: Support the change management process by tracking, analyzing, and incorporating approved change orders into project forecasts.
• Invoicing & Accruals: Verify invoices against services rendered/materials received, process accruals, and reconcile financial data.
• Data Integrity: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of cost data within project control systems (e.g., ERP, CMMS, scheduling software).
• Performance Monitoring: Contribute to overall project performance monitoring, integrating cost data with schedule progress.
• Risk Analysis: Participate in cost-related risk assessments and support the development of mitigation strategies.

Who We're Looking For: Your Essential Qualifications

To excel as a Cost Control / Project Controls Coordinator in the demanding Fort McMurray construction environment, you'll need strong analytical capabilities and robust experience:

• Education: A Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or Project Management is typically required. Certification from AACE International (e.g., CCC, CCP) or a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is a significant asset.
• Experience: Minimum 3-7 years of progressive experience in cost control, cost engineering, or project controls, specifically within heavy industrial construction, large-scale capital projects, or the Oil & Gas sector. Experience on Fort McMurray projects is highly valued.
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, data analysis) is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards) and/or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) like Maximo.
  • Familiarity with Project Scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and the ability to integrate cost and schedule data is a strong asset.
  • Experience with financial reporting tools and databases.
• Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities with a meticulous attention to detail.
