Your Essential Role in Fort McMurray Construction

As a Concrete Finisher / Formsetter on Fort McMurray's demanding industrial sites, you are fundamental to constructing the robust foundations, pads, and structures that support the oil sands industry. You'll be responsible for the accurate layout and construction of concrete forms, followed by the expert placement and finishing of concrete, ensuring durability, adherence to specifications, and a safe, high-quality final product.

Key Responsibilities often include:

  • Formsetting: Precisely lay out, construct, erect, and dismantle concrete forms (wood, metal, plastic) for foundations, slabs, walls, columns, and other structures according to blueprints and specifications.
  • Concrete Placement: Supervise or assist in the pouring and spreading of concrete, ensuring proper consistency and distribution.
  • Vibrating: Operate concrete vibrators to consolidate concrete, eliminate air pockets, and ensure maximum density.
  • Finishing: Skillfully level, smooth, and finish concrete surfaces using hand and power tools (trowels, screeds, floats, power trowels, brooms) to achieve specified textures and finishes.
  • Curing & Sealing: Apply curing compounds or perform other curing methods to ensure proper concrete strength development, and apply sealants as required.
  • Grade & Elevation Checks: Verify levels, alignments, and dimensions using levels, transits, and lasers to ensure accuracy.
  • Reinforcement: Assist with the placement and tying of rebar, mesh, or other reinforcement materials within forms.
  • Tool & Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain concrete saws, grinders, power screeds, power trowels, and other concrete-related equipment.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company, client, and provincial (Alberta OHS) safety policies and procedures, including safe handling of materials, lockout/tagout, and working near heavy equipment.
  • Quality Control: Identify and report any deficiencies, ensuring all work meets quality standards and engineering specifications.
